Metal prices: crucial in the production of electrical cables
Metals are the fundamental component of cables, as they conduct electricity; the most commonly used metals are:
- Copper: the most widely used conductor due to its high electrical conductivity and ductility.
- Aluminium: lighter than Copper, it is used for large cables, overhead power lines and submarine cables.
- Steel: used for ground cables and for reinforcing large diameter cables.
- Other metals: other metals such as gold and silver can also be found in some applications due to their special properties.
