Main materials for metal mould production
The main raw materials used for the production of metal moulds are:
- Alloy steels: these are the most widely used materials for the production of moulds, due to their high mechanical strength and wear resistance; they are divided into: Hot-rolled steels (for hot stamping of metals), Cold-rolled steels (suitable for cold stamping), High-speed steels (for the production of complex moulds and for high-speed machining).
- Cast iron: used for the production of large moulds due to its good melt fluidity and low cost.
- Copper-based alloys: they offer excellent thermal conductivity, making them ideal for moulding plastics.
- Nickel-based alloys: have high corrosion and heat resistance, used for specific applications.
